Youth abroad

You grew up abroad. Your parents are (for example) plain English, but lived for a short or long period of time in a different country. You’re ‘back’ and ‘home again’. That’s also how many people approach you. From the outside, there are so many similarities; from the inside, there are so many different experiences.

What does this mean to you?

Does this sound familiar?

  • You’re so used to adjusting, you don’t know for sure who you are.
  • You usually feel different than others, misunderstood or insecure.
  • You feel restless and don’t know where home is.
  • You feel like there are certain abilities the country you live in now expect you to have, which you don’t.

If you recognize yourself in any of the above, I would gladly help you turn your personal history into your strength.

Would you like an orientation meeting? Non-binding, clarifying, and free of charge. Then make an appointment. I would like to help you.

What is the course of action?
After you decide to work with me, we will determine which goal you want to work towards. My focus will always be on the question you have and the type of person you are. I don’t believe in one size fits all, but choose a personal approach, using methods which are most suited to your situation. The main question is: what do you need in order to achieve your goal? Together we will determine what the possibilities are, and how we will work together.

Often, six to ten meetings will be enough to offer you the tools to get on with. Of course you are free to indicate whether you prefer more or less sessions.

Everyone is different
In our meetings we will investigate your cultural background and your question. We will look at the impact that living between cultures has on you and what it asks of you. However, In Between Counselling does not only address culture. Every person is unique and not only a part of a culture. It is about you as a complete person. Indeed, you approach everything in life from the perspective of the person that you are, your being. As is the case with attachment to several cultures. We will map out how you do this and what you need to change your situation.

My role
I will be your travel partner, facilitating your journey of exploration. I will do this by asking you helping questions and by holding a mirror to you. I will also be your guide and at crucial moments I will offer you supporting knowledge and information. These go hand in hand. This way, you will find your own path and there will be structure in your process.
